With 325,000 new cases of malignant melanoma in the year 2020 and 57,000 deaths as a result, skin cancer is one of the most common and deadly cancers worldwide for years. The trend is still rising, as the number of cases could increase by around 50 % and the number of deaths by up to 68 % by the year 2040*. In addition, due to the pandemic, there has been a sharp decline in skin and mole checks. Sobering figures. That is why the month of May is dedicated to raise awareness.

Worldwide, organizations such as the American Academy of Dermatology, the World Health Organization, the Skin Cancer Foundation and medical associations are appealing for more awareness about skin cancer and – above all – more mole checks. Especially in the case of malignant melanoma, early detection can be life-saving! FotoFinder Systems GmbH provides cutting-edge technology: The ATBM master for Total Body Dermoscopy visualizes new, changed and suspicious lesions of the entire skin surface at a glance – supported by Artificial Intelligence.

Total Body Dermoscopy – managing the chaos of multiple lesions

The days when dermatologists examined moles with the naked eye or a simple magnifying glass are over. Today, the use of computer-assisted examination methods for skin checks is standard in every dermatological practice. The most advanced technology for this purpose is provided by the FotoFinder ATBM master with its Total Body Dermoscopy workflow, which intelligently combines Total Body Mapping and digital dermoscopy, enabling a time-saving, detailed examination of the entire skin surface.

The Mosaic of Moles

The procedure is fully automated: Once all images have been taken, the Bodyscan master intelligently arranges new, changed and unchanged lesions in ONE overview in its “Mosaic View”. A zoom into the brilliant total body images provides the physician with necessary information to decide which lesions are suspicious and need to be additionally examined and saved with the video dermatoscope. With the aid of the live zoom, it is possible to zoom into the finest structures of a lesion. The high level of detail contributes to the need for fewer biopsies.

Mole checks: time-saving and hygienic

Total Body Mapping can be performed from a safe hygiene distance of 1.6 m. Thanks to the brilliant clinical images, the need for microscopic images – and thus close contact during the examination – is reduced to a fraction of the lesions. The FotoFinder Full HD video camera medicam for video dermoscopy has exchangeable front caps that can be disinfected after each patient.

Artificial Intelligence for analysis of skin and nevi

The Total Body Dermoscopy workflow combines high-resolution image quality with innovative software features and Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI is applied in multiple ways: On the one hand it optimizes the results of Bodyscan and Total Body Dermoscopy, on the other hand it supports the pre-assessment of melanocytic and non-melanocytic lesions with one of the most powerful deep learning algorithms evaluated in clinical trials up to now.** The Moleanalyzer pro algorithm has already been proven in numerous studies and has performed first-class in both sensitivity and specificity.
