The work of NSK across its global and European supply chains on climate change issues has led to notable recognition for the third consecutive year. CDP, a global non-profit, non-governmental organisation specialising in environmental disclosure, has bestowed the highest leadership level on NSK in its 2022 Supplier Engagement Rating (SER) initiative.

Seen as the gold standard in environmental reporting, CDP rates and evaluates companies and municipalities worldwide on their efforts to set high targets, manage risk and disclose information on environmental issues. The SER assesses how effectively companies are working with their suppliers on climate change issues, focusing on key areas that include governance, targets and Scope 3 GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions. Based on such factors, CDP selects companies that achieve the highest rating as Supplier Engagement Leaders.

NSK gained the highest SER in particular for its group-wide efforts to protect the environment through products and services that contribute to energy and resource conservation, as well as its proactive initiatives to reduce CO2 emissions via its business activities. As a point of note, the company also achieved the second highest leadership level (A-) in CDP’s 2022 Climate Change and Water Security Rating.

NSK aims to contribute to the sustainable development of society, today and into the future. The company’s products help vehicles and industrial machines to control friction and reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions. NSK has developed a system of Neco (NSK Eco-efficiency Indicator) scores as an internal guide against which to evaluate the environmental contribution of its products on a quantitative basis.

The company also works closely with its supply chain to eliminate the use of hazardous substances and increase the adoption of environmentally sustainable raw materials. Today, 30% of NSK Europe’s bearing production uses low CO2 emission ‘green’ steel produced at carbon-neutral plants.
