Currently, around 4.4 percent of total energy consumption in the US is used by data centers. In 2017, when this trend began, it was around half that amount. Tech heavyweights such as Google and Apple are therefore striving to tap into sufficient energy sources. The actual figures for how much energy AI applications consume are still being researched and much remains unknown. Fans, CPUs, and other devices related to artificial intelligence also rely on energy. It is clear that AI centers need a secure, constant energy supply without interruption.

Wind and solar energy cannot provide this. According to the US Department of Energy and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, US data centers consumed 176 TWh in 2023 and a good 200 TWh in 2024. Estimates for 2028 range between 325 and 580 TWh, representing annual growth of between 13 and 27 percent.

Interest in nuclear energy has also risen significantly as a result of the Russia-Ukraine war. Various countries have currently extended the operation of existing nuclear reactors, in some cases by up to 80 years in the US. Primary uranium production in mines and enrichment plants is still sufficient to meet most global demand. Secondary uranium supplies are used to close gaps between supply and demand. Companies that focus on uranium production should therefore have sufficient customers in the future.

Premier American Uranium https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/premier-american-uranium-inc/ – has uranium projects in uranium-rich regions in the US, namely in the Great Divide Basin in Wyoming and the Uravan Mineral Belt in Colorado.

Uranium Energy https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/uranium-energy-corp/ – has diversified uranium holdings and ISR uranium projects in the US, with additional projects in Canada.
