The International Energy Agency (IEA) believes that the nuclear industry will become increasingly important, as the growing global demand for electricity must be met while climate targets remain in focus. And modern technologies such as SMRs will find their way into a wide variety of areas. They are predestined for remote regions, but also for the maritime sector. As emission-free energy sources, they can provide energy not only for cargo ships, but also for yachts, thus ensuring a clean future for travel.

Nuclear ship propulsion systems have been used successfully as a source of energy in submarines, naval vessels, and icebreakers for decades. What is fueling uranium consumption is, of course, the almost worldwide shift toward nuclear energy. In Poland, preliminary work is already underway for three planned nuclear power plant units. In Romania, the modernization of Cernavodă-1 and the construction of new blocks are expected to provide more nuclear power. The Philippines is also pushing ahead with its first privately financed power plant project. Slovakia is working on the construction of a new nuclear power plant block. In Ukraine, the government and parliament are working on the legal basis for the construction of the first SMRs.

In the UK, there is a site for the first SMR on the island of Anglesey in Wales. In the US state of Washington, Amazon and its partners are planning to build up to twelve SMRs. In Canada, the operating license for a nuclear power plant has been extended. The Dutch government also has plans to extend the license for its nuclear reactor. This global development is creating a high demand for uranium, which uranium companies are focusing on.
