Jenoptik, a leading manufacturer of smart mobility solutions, is delivering one of the world’s first distracted driver programs to an Australian customer. The company has a three-year contract with an optional two-year extension with a value of approx. 10 million euros. The contract, with Victoria’s Department of Justice and Community Safety, is to deliver a full-service, mobile road safety camera solution that can detect illegal mobile phone use, the absence of seatbelts and the provision of an offences verification system.

“Using a mobile phone or other devices while driving is distracting and greatly increases the chance of being involved in an accident. This particularly dangerous driver behavior has been an ever-increasing issue during the past years. We are especially delighted to be able to now deliver such a solution that will help road authorities to tackle this challenge,” says Sam Iglewski, Managing Director of Jenoptik Australia.

Jenoptik will provide the State of Victoria with a number of highly efficient, 24/7 self-operating relocatable trailers with all necessary enforcement camera equipment to detect in-car mobile phone use as well as seat belt violations with strong image quality and accuracy. The mobile trailers will be deployed in various locations over time, thus being able to cover an extensive network of Victorian roads.

“Making roads and communities safer is our ambition around the globe. Therefore, we are excited to further contribute to road safety by delivering this innovative project, which is in line with our strategy to grow the share of recurring revenues in our business,” says Kevin Chevis, head of Jenoptik’s Smart Mobility Solutions division.
