Fraport USA, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fraport AG, has prevailed in the bidding for the center management concessions at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). The two airports serve as gateways for the U.S capital city. The new ten-year contract was concluded with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) as the responsible airport operating agency and will become effective in January 2024.

Dr. Stefan Schulte, CEO of Fraport AG, stated: “The fact that we have won these concessions reflects our success in implementing our center management approach over the course of many years. By concluding the new contract for the two capital city airports, we are further expanding our attractive portfolio of U.S. airports. In cooperation with MWAA, we aim to further optimize processes and offer passengers a modern and diverse shopping and restaurant experience at both gateways.”

Fraport USA has been commissioned by MWAA to market and develop the retail and F&B spaces at the two aviation hubs serving Washington D. C. Each airport features some 11,000 square meters of concessions space. Sabine Trenk, CEO of Fraport USA, said: “We will focus on further enhancing the airport experience for passengers by leveraging the uniqueness of this capital region. As part of our approach, we will support smaller companies from the region so that passengers can savor Washington D.C.’s typical sense of place before departure or when arriving. We are proud to have the opportunity to implement our innovative and world-class retail program at Dulles and Ronald Reagan National.”

Located five kilometers to the south of Washington’s city center, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) is one of the busiest domestic airports in the U.S. During 2022, some 22 million passengers traveled via DCA.

Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) is the U.S. capital’s gateway to the world. The airport is located about 30 kilometers to the west of Washington in the state of Virginia. Dulles airport – which also serves as United Airlines’ East Coast hub – welcomed some 21 million passengers in 2022.

Fraport USA ranks among the market leaders in developing new retail and food & beverage approaches at airports in the United States. Besides the new concessions at IAD and DCA, the company is also responsible for the center management at one terminal each of Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and JFK Airport in New York, as well as at the airports of Baltimore/Washington (BWI), Cleveland (CLE) and Nashville (BNA).
