Cevotec and Union Chemical Ind. Co., Ltd. (Union Chemical) have entered a commercial partnership to bring Robotic Lamination to composite manufacturers in Taiwan. Union Chemical acts as Cevotec’s sales partner in the Taiwanese market, drawing on more than 50 years of distribution experience and an extensive network across the plastics, composites, electronics, coatings and advanced materials industries.

Taiwan has made massive multi-billion-dollar investments and strategic pivots to position itself as a major military and commercial UAV manufacturing hub. Leveraging its existing dominant position in electronics, Taiwan is a growing base of manufacturers of unmanned systems that are increasingly employing lightweight composite structures. The partnership between Cevotec and Union Chemical empowers UAV manufacturers to rapidly scale production through automated, high-rate Robotic Lamination in composite manufacturing. Union Chemical’s local presence and long-standing customer relationships in Taiwan position it strongly to introduce Cevotec’s automation technology to this market.

A proven technology, now industrializing

Cevotec’s Robotic Lamination technology is based on the Fiber Patch Placement (FPP) process, which has been developed in the aerospace industry for close to 20 years. Cevotec has been industrializing the technology during the past 10 years for series production. Cevotec is also part of the GFM Austria group, a special-machinery manufacturer with more than 80 years of engineering experience, and the two companies continue to jointly develop solutions that complement this partnership model.

Building a partnership around Robotic Lamination in Taiwan with a solid plan

Cevotec and Union Chemical plan to build the partnership together in a stepwise model tailored for long-term needs of Taiwan. After initial successful concept proofs at leading Taiwanese manufacturers, utilizing Cevotec’s existing know-how and technology in Germany, Union Chemical plans to establish a local base for technology development and manufacturing, giving Taiwanese customers direct access to the SAMBA Robotic Lamination equipment to automate their production. Additionally, such a competence center may pool the manufacturing needs of lower volume applications cost-effectively at a center.

In this way, beyond direct sales, both partners plan to jointly promote smart manufacturing across Taiwan’s composites industry through technical demonstrations and customer workshops to contribute to the growing competitive strength of Taiwan in the future of global UAV market.
